Beading and Jewelry Design Course Description |

The following classes are now available for student registration. Other classes may be added or discontinued as student demand warrants. *Each class includes a short lecture on the materials and techniques that will be employed within the class. The remainder of the class will consist of hands-on instruction. In most of the classes listed below, students will leave the class with at least one finished, ready-to-wear piece of jewelry, unless otherwise noted. *** |
| 1. | Basic Bead Stringing: Learn the RIGHT way to string and professionally finish beautiful, durable and comfortable to wear designer necklaces and bracelets. Students will learn about the different stringing materials available, and learn how to properly finish their pieces for maximum durability and comfort. Creating multi-strand necklaces and bracelets will also be explored at students’ request. |
| 2. | Creating Pendants and Earrings: Learn essential wire-working techniques to create your own unique pendants and earrings. Students will also learn how to use the beautiful and versatile Italian Wire Mesh Ribbon to compliment the pendant(s) created in class. This class will give students a good foundation in basic wire-working techniques, which will surely be used again and again in future jewelry-making projects. Students will leave the class with a finished pendant necklace and matching dangle earrings. |
| 3. | Pearl Knotting: Students will learn to knot between pearls or semi-precious stone beads strung on silk-cord, using a simple tool called a “knotting awl.” This is a classic time-honored technique that any designer, whether she be amateur or professional, would surely want to add to her repertoire. Depending on the length of each student’s necklace, and how quickly students learn the knotting technique, projects may or may not be completed by the end of class. |
| 4. | Advanced Techniques - The Joy of Bead-weaving (off-loom): There are a myriad of hand bead-weaving techniques available using seed beads and thread to create stunning one-of-a-kind beaded pieces. Students will be introduced to Japanese Delica seed beads, which are designed especially for bead-weaving, as well as a host of other materials. Each class will consist of two 2 ½ hour sessions. Students will be expected to work on their projects at home between sessions. Classes will be taught utilizing three different classic bead-weaving stitches: The Peyote stitch - The Brick stitch - The Spiral Rope stitch The four individual classes that are being offered are listed below. Students may combine any three bead-weaving classes and receive a 10% discount materials purchased. |
